INTRODUCTION WORKSHOP IN REGENERATIVE EMBROIDERY: Creating Precious Ornaments from Natural and Reused Materials with Emmanuelle Rapin
Saturday 6. June at 14:30 - 17:30
MAISON SHIFT, Zürich
Learn artistic embroidery techniques and create a textile ornament from natural and repurposed materials.
In this workshop, participants are invited to discover embroidery as a regenerative practice: a way of transforming materials and traditional stitching techniques through the use of unexpected elements. Drawing on methods from haute couture embroidery ateliers, you will create a small ornament by combining a range of hand embroidery techniques inspired by both artistic embroidery and goldwork.
Threads, metal elements, and found materials such as seeds, plant fragments, broken jewellery, or watch parts are assembled into richly textured, precious surfaces.
From this embroidered surface, you will then develop a three dimensional object inspired by origami folding, which can take the form of a flower or a butterfly. It can be worn as a brooch, used as a hair accessory, or applied as a patch to repair or transform a garment.
The workshop understands embroidery as a language of transformation: a way of repairing and embellishing what already exists. Each participant develops their own composition and takes home a unique piece that can be worn, attached, or further developed. A short demonstration of the Lunéville hook offers insight into haute couture embroidery techniques, while the focus remains on accessible hand embroidery methods.
