A fun, experimental journey into the world of character-driven stand-up! Dive into the art of stand-up comedy through the lens of alter egos and character development. Comedians often create exaggerated personas or entirely new characters to explore unique perspectives, connect with their audiences, and enhance comedic performances. This workshop will explore the creative benefits of adopting an alter ego and experiment with different styles and voices.
Learn how your alter ego can serve as a tool for creative expression and provide a layer of separation between your personal life and your on-stage material. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll discover how crafting an alter ego can help push boundaries, enhance comedic delivery, and provide a memorable experience for your audience. Whether you're a seasoned comedian looking to break free from routine or a beginner eager to explore new comedic perspectives, this workshop will give you the tools to unlock more profound levels of creativity and identity in your performance.
Kym Nelson is a scriptwriter, performer, director, and stand-up comedian. She recently performed her solo show at the Edinburgh Festival, which was a semi-autobiographical account of her comedy capers as a former yoga teacher and the characters she has met in the industry. Character, storytelling, and physical comedy are what she brings to the stage and performs regularly in the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands, including at the iconic 'Boom Chicago' in Amsterdam. She also teaches masterclasses in stand-up comedy at the Brussels Bridge Theatre. Instagram: kym_mindatplay.
