A journey through the circle of time
Evening. Night. Dawn. Day.
Darkness gives way to light, a day is born and fades, and everything begins again. This circle was here long before us and will remain after us. RITUAL. Viņsaule is built around it: the music and images move through all four parts of the day.
At the heart of the evening are Latvian folk songs, the dainas, in a contemporary and unexpected sound. They were sung by people who lived on this land before us, about love and worry, nature, life and death. The songs passed from generation to generation, kept alive by memory.
Ancient melodies meet ambient, contemporary music, sound healing, improvisation and live electronics. Sounddive Voices weave their singing through gongs, crystal bowls, cello, flute, kokle, Kotamo and guitar. You will feel the low frequencies of the large gong in your chest before you hear them.
Latvian nature comes alive on the vast screens: forest, water, wind and fog, animals and birds, earth and sky. The scenes change with the music.
Guests settle on soft mattresses. Everyone receives a blanket and an eye mask. Put the mask on whenever you want to sink deeper.
No experience with meditation or sound healing needed. Just come and lie down.
On the night of 24–25 October the clocks go back, and the day has 25 hours. That day, even time moves in a circle.
Arrive early: the performance begins in darkness. Wear loose, comfortable clothes and bring warm socks.
