The Saunafestival takes place during the Night of Ancient Bonfires weekend at Ulge Park and offers two days of rich, diverse and carefully curated experiences for everyone who appreciates the many layers of sauna culture. The festival grounds are designed so that visitors can move naturally and comfortably between saunas, programme areas, light trails and bonfire zones, all while enjoying the calm rhythm of a late summer evening.
Guests are welcomed by a large sauna village featuring over 40 mobile saunas. Each sauna offers its own story, style and character, bringing together both traditional and modern expressions of sauna culture. Workshops on sauna heritage, ritual practices and ancestral knowledge invite visitors to explore deeper, more meaningful aspects of the sauna world.
The evening programme culminates with the Night of Ancient Bonfires, when Ulge Park and the lakeshore transform into a glowing landscape of light trails, bonfire areas and atmospheric music. Two stages host concerts, performances and karaoke, offering engaging content for both the calm-seeking visitor and those who prefer a livelier pace – including guests who may not be sauna enthusiasts at all.
The well-being area offers a Men’s Well-Being Space, massages, haircare and restorative treatments that help soothe body and mind alongside the festival’s natural rhythm. The dedicated family area with gentler saunas, playful activities and a safe environment allows families to enjoy the festival together throughout both days.
To make the visit comfortable and stress-free, the festival features a camper van area, a tent camping zone and shuttle service operating between accommodation facilities and the city of Viljandi throughout the event. All of this creates an opportunity to experience a two-day getaway as a small, refreshing holiday with minimal logistics and a strong sense of safety. đź’š
