Today, Iberi is one of Georgia's most creative and versatile ensembles. The group is at once an ambassador of Georgian polyphony and traditional instrumental music, a pioneer of contemporary ethnic music, and a musical bridge between different cultures.
Georgian polyphony is an exceptionally complex musical tradition that has spread throughout the country and been passed down orally for thousands of years. It forms an essential part of Georgia's cultural identity, which is why polyphonic singing remains deeply rooted in everyday life. Its beauty continues to move and captivate audiences around the world. In 2008, Georgian polyphonic singing was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Iberi is dedicated to preserving the richness and diversity of Georgia's musical traditionsโfrom liturgical chants, historical ballads, work songs, and ceremonial feast songs to contemporary urban folk music. The ensemble brings together the distinctive musical styles that have evolved across Georgia's many regions. With passion and exceptional musicianship, Iberi interprets these traditions in its own unique way while honoring the cultural heritage that has been kept alive through generations.
The ensemble's singers and musicians create richly nuanced interpretations of these songs, reimagining and improvising them differently at every performance while remaining faithful to the traditions from which they originate.
