Alexey Munipov: Sounds of the Schizo-Revolution
Friday 1. May at 19:00 - 21:00
GALERIE WASSER Berlin
Art critic and artist Andrei Khlobystin used the term “Schizorevolution” to describe a brief but dazzling cultural turn at the end of the 1980s and into the 1990s — and Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe was its most iconic figure.
Alexey Munipov will talk about the music that accompanied Monroe and his circle in their work and everyday life. Avant-jazz and the collective improvisations of “Pop Mechanics,” the first tracks by the “New Composers,” the mixtapes of Fontanka, 145 and the “Leningrad mushroom rave” (a term coined by Monroe), the playlists of “Ptyuch,” and the music segments of “Pirate Television” — all formed the soundtrack to an avant-garde “theater of life” that many still remember today.
The lecture will be held in Russian.
