History of the Faroe Islands (Please Don't Laugh) - By David Valley - In Gothenburg

Contrast Public House, Göteborg

Have you ever wondered about the history of the Faroe Islands?

No? Well, that’s unfortunate. You’re going to hear about it anyway.

History of the Faroe Islands (Please Don’t Laugh) is a deeply serious examination of the Faroese past, featuring absolutely no jokes. Just facts you never asked for and will probably forget immediately afterwards. And that’s perfectly fine.

For once, we as a nation are trying to be taken seriously, and this show is part of that effort.

Faroese comedian David Valley takes the audience on a journey through the history of the Faroe Islands, from Vikings and Danish rule to having their own language, flag and national football team.

Along the way, there will also be sheep-related infrastructure, patriotism and an attempt to explain how the Faroe Islands can have so many things of their own while simultaneously being part of the Kingdom of Denmark. An arrangement that is completely simple, logical and not at all confusing.

Expect a thorough, 100% academic analysis based on historical sources and modern research.

There will also be PowerPoint slides, audience participation, songs and possibly a game.

The show has sold out in five countries. This has surprised everyone involved, especially the Faroese.

Over the past year, David Valley has been touring internationally with the show, answering questions about the Faroe Islands that nobody asked and making Faroese history other countries’ problem.

Now it’s Sweden’s turn.

So sit back, relax, and prepare to learn everything about very little: the history, the culture, the complicated relationship with Denmark, and one man’s slightly desperate attempt to explain the Faroe Islands to the outside world.

Don’t worry. It’s more boring than it sounds.

The only show about Faroese history in the entire world.

And whatever you do, please don’t laugh.
