“Grab ’m by the pussy” Workshop with Zizi Zinnona

Burlesque Estonia, Tallinn

Grab ‘m by the pussy: using your anger to make awesome political burlesque

With a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Studies and Political Science and a Master’s degree in Gender Studies, it is no coincidence that Zizi Zinnona creates burlesque performances with a strong political message. Her work has taken her to some of the most respected festivals and stages across Europe, where burlesque becomes a powerful tool for social commentary.

There is so much to be angry about in today’s society. As performers, we are in a unique position to transform that anger into something visible, meaningful, and impactful. The personal is political – and in burlesque, this connection becomes even more explicit.

In this workshop, Zizi Zinnona shares her experience in creating burlesque acts with a political undertone. The session begins with a short overview of the history of burlesque as a form of social critique, followed by a collective analysis of selected political burlesque performances. Together, the group explores the many different forms political burlesque can take and the artistic tools that make these acts effective.

Using a specially designed worksheet, participants will brainstorm, shape, and develop their own act ideas based on themes that genuinely move, provoke, or frustrate them. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave inspired, energized, and equipped with a clear roadmap for creating bold and powerful political burlesque performances.
