GIRL, INTERRUPTED: Women in Film Fest @ FOMO Cinema
Wednesday 25. March at 18:00 - 20:07
FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi
James Mangold | 1999 | USA | 2h07m | English language with English subtitles
Set within a psychiatric hospital in the late 1960s, GIRL, INTERRUPTED examines the fragile boundaries between illness, rebellion, and identity formation. Based on Susanna Kaysen’s memoir, the film situates its narrative within a shifting cultural landscape, capturing a generation negotiating the pressures of conformity and the desire for self-definition.
Anchored by a volatile Academy Award-winning performance from Angelina Jolie, the film constructs a charged ensemble dynamic in which institutional authority and personal autonomy collide. Its continued relevance lies in its willingness to interrogate the social frameworks that define normality, positioning psychological crisis within broader questions of gendered expectation and belonging.
