Tom Newton Dunn is a political journalist and
broadcaster and a former Political Editor of The Sun
and Times Radio. He is the great-great-nephew of
the legendary climber George Mallory, who was last
seen alive before he disappeared just 800 feet from
the summit of Mount Everest on the 8th June 1924.
His body was discovered in 1999 but offered no
proof to whether he was the first to climb the world’s
tallest mountain, so climbing’s most romantic
mystery endures. Tom will speak about the recently
discovered personal letters hidden in a drawer,
written by Mallory to his mother and wife Ruth,
which he has published in a new book, ‘Letters
From Everest’. They reveal his innermost thoughts
about Everest providing a deep understanding of
his fascinating life. Also included were letters from
Ruth, giving us a glimpse into her social history
during World War 1. There will be a book signing
after the talk, on the terrace during wine.
