Free Indian Dance & Movement Workshop ( Beyond Bollywood)

T1 Tallinn, 3rd floor, Arte do Brasil Capoeira

Language of instruction: English, plus my best Estonian (still learning!). Dance is a language of its own, so you'll be fine.

Say "Bollywood" and most people picture fast, high-energy dance numbers. But Indian dance is much more than that! It is expressive, graceful, rooted in storytelling, and full of variety.

Join us for a free, relaxed one-hour workshop to discover what makes Indian dance different, and to enjoy a mindful, feel-good way to move.

What we'll do together:

🌿 A friendly introduction to the different Indian dance forms, and what Bollywood dance really is (and isn't)

🌿 A short seated choreography: learn to express yourself through hands, face, and gesture, without leaving your place!

🌿 A fun burst of energetic Indian folk dance, so you can feel for yourself how different the styles are

This workshop is for you if:

✔ You've never danced before, or haven't moved much in a long time

✔ You're curious about Indian culture and dance

✔ You'd like a gentle, enjoyable way to unwind and move your body

No experience needed. No pressure. No judgment.

Wear comfortable clothes, bring some water, and join in at your own level. Come once, enjoy the experience, and if you like it, I'll share how you can continue.

About your host: Hi, I'm Shruti Rajan. I have a background in Biomedical Engineering, with a bachelor's and master's degree and work experience in Kuwait and France, but dance has been my passion since childhood. I've been dancing since childhood and have enjoyed dancing a variety of Indian dance forms, from classical to folk. I'm currently practicing Mohiniyattam, a graceful classical form from Kerala, after earlier years with Bharatanatyam and Kathak.

Since moving to Estonia, I've shared and taught Indian dance at various cultural events. These experiences have made me realize how much I enjoy introducing people to Indian dance — especially those who have never tried it before or who think they "can't dance."
