Fotografiska artist talk: To be Born and to Give Birth
Thursday 9. October at 18:00 - 19:00
Fotografiska Tallinn
Where do we go to bring our children home? In every birth, there is a moment when the birthing person seems to vanish – no longer a human being, but an immeasurable force of nature.
At Fotografiska, Swedish photographer Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez’s exhibition To Be Born and To Give Birth offers a raw, honest, and intimate look at the moments where both life and parenthood begin. The photographs reveal the physical and everyday, while the artist’s reflections reach into the primal and the metaphysical – where the real and the poetic merge into an exhibition in which birth is both a testimony and a journey.
On October 9, during the opening evening of the exhibition To Be Born and To Give Birth, artist Emilia Bergmark-Jiménez will be joined in conversation by Pauline Benthede, Global Vice President of Artistic Direction and Exhibitions at Fotografiska. Together they will share an open and personal look into the artist’s journey: how she came to document birth and what it means to be present at life’s most vulnerable, yet most powerful moment. Every birth is a story. Every step into parenthood is a form of growth. Every child arrives into a different world. The conversation takes place in the heart of the exhibition — a celebration of life’s beginning in all its rawness and uniqueness.
