NOM
KINGS OF THE AVANT-GARDE
A DRAMATIC-IDIOTIC SHOW
NOM are coming to the Caucasus for the very first time!
A true legend and one of the most unique acts to emerge from Eastern Europe, NOM will present their famous Dramatic-Idiotic Show — a signature blend of music, theatre, absurdity, and satire.
The program includes the band's greatest hits as well as new material.
NOM is an acronym for Non-Formal Youth Association.
The term was widely used by the official Soviet press in the late 1980s and early 1990s to describe groups of young people who stood outside the structures of official youth organizations.
The band was formed in Saint Petersburg by students and former classmates. The name was chosen as an alternative to the increasingly serious rock movement that gained momentum during the years of Perestroika.
An ironic and mocking worldview became the foundation of NOM's artistic identity.
"The idiotization of life's dramatic aspects and the dramatization of its idiotic ones" was the manifesto with which the band entered the Leningrad rock scene in 1989.
The musicians have always resisted strict genre definitions, moving freely between garage rock, German electronic minimalism, comic opera, and countless other forms.
In their lyrics, NOM continue the tradition of Russian absurdist literature, drawing inspiration from figures ranging from Kozma Prutkov to the OBERIU movement (Daniil Kharms, Alexander Vvedensky, and others).
Music critic Artemy Troitsky once described NOM as "the last bastion of merciless satire" — words that seem more relevant today than ever.
