"Work That Crowd!" How to MC a comedy show and crowd work with a unique voice

Rainbow Center - Zentrum fir queer Kultur, Luxembourg

A comedy show starts way before the first comedian takes the stage. How to warm up your audience as an MC? How to find a connection with people in the crowd? How to manage large groups with ease? This is exactly what we'll dive into during this workshop.

This workshop covers the basics of crowd work and comedy show hosting. We will provide you with guidance on how to get going and how to level up your audience chats. Heck, these tips will even give you a leg up in professional networking situations.

What are we going to cover in this workshop?

  • How to approach MCing a show and what to pay attention to

  • How to choose audience members for crowd-working

  • How to come up with unique topics for crowd work without killing the vibe

  • How to find your crowd work persona

  • How to potentially utilise crowd work techniques in your professional life and networking

  • The differences in crowd work for hosting vs adding crowd work to your set

This is a 3 hour workshop with international comedian Mari Volar.

Who is she?

A powerhouse on the European comedy circuit, Mari Volar is an Estonian comedian, MC, and event producer with a  knack for blending feminism with comedy —and delivering both with dramatic flair. Whether performing solo or hosting, she commands the stage with ease, as noted by  Theater Scotland :  "Volar has a great stage presence and easily captivates an audience.”

Our regular audiences will also recognise Mari as one of the founding members of Festrogen.

Please note that Festrogen offers subsidised scholarship spots to all workshops for people otherwise unable to participate. For more info on how to apply, please email us with your details at [email protected]
