Lecture by Arkadiy Gershman "What is a City for People?" in Warsaw
Sala konferencyjna i szkoleniowa na wynajem SALA LIKE Warszawa
Warsaw is a city that changes faster than we can get used to it
Endless road closures and street reconstructions have become the new normal for capitals, much like the debates over narrowing lanes for the sake of trees and sidewalks. It feels as if the familiar Warsaw with its dynamic vibe is vanishing before our eyes, but I would put it differently: the capital is being reborn.
On September 11, urbanist Arkadiy Gershman will talk about the evolution of cities: why different European cities ultimately arrive at the exact same solutions that shatter common stereotypes.
What we will talk about:
• The methods architects use to control our behavior;
• How "fashionable" architecture broke cities in the 20th century;
• What 21st-century cities have borrowed from 19th-century cities;
• Why bike lanes are outdated and are being removed today even in Amsterdam.
If you want to better understand the essence of urban transformation and become a professional citizen, this is definitely an event you should attend. Stories from all over the world await you, along with a chance to finally understand how a "city for people" works today, and simply have a great evening!
About the speaker: Arkadiy Gershman is an urbanist and the creator of the "City for People" YouTube channel. He talks about how cities are structured: why some streets are comfortable and safe while others are not, how quality public spaces work, and how smart people are fixing old mistakes today. For over 15 years, he has been studying cities, developing standards, and consulting municipalities. His goal is to help people better understand their city and how to make it more convenient for living.
