Summer has finally arrived, so FOMO is bringing CANNES HEAT to the big screen: a week of scandalous, divisive, seductive films that shocked audiences, split critics and turned desire into cinema history.

SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE is the film that made Steven Soderbergh impossible to ignore. Made when he was still in his twenties, it follows a tightly wound group of people in Baton Rouge whose relationships begin to unravel after the arrival of a strange old friend with a video camera and a talent for exposing what everyone else would rather leave unsaid.

The scandal was never about spectacle. Soderbergh’s film is quiet, controlled, and almost clinical in the way it watches people talk around desire, boredom, betrayal and embarrassment. That restraint made it feel more provocative, not less. The film treats private confession as performance, and turns conversation into a kind of emotional striptease.

When SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE premiered at Cannes in 1989, it became the shock success of the festival, winning the Palme d’Or and helping define the next decade of American independent cinema. It proved that a small, talk-heavy film about intimacy and discomfort could become an international event. Not bad for a movie mostly built from awkward pauses and people sitting in rooms.

FOOD AND DRINK POLICY: FOMO Cinema Lounge Bar opens 1 hour before the first screening of the day and closes at 02:00,.serving a wide selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic refreshments including coffee and tea, as well as fresh hot popcorn! Outside food is allowed in the bar but not in the cinema. No alcohol from outside allowed. All guests are invited to arrive early and stay late!
