Medieval Days at the Estonian Health Museum: Science Show 'Public Dissection’ (show in English!)

Saturday 12. July at 15:00 - 16:00

Estonian Health Museum, Tallinn

During Medieval Days, the Estonian Health Museum invites you to discover the human body and refresh your knowledge of medical history.

The science show ‘Public Dissection’ offers a journey through time into the world of medieval dissections and barber-surgeons. Public dissections became popular in medieval Europe — they provided audiences with a rare opportunity to peek inside the human body and took medical science to a new level.

In the first part of the science show, we’ll recall how scholars of the past understood the human body and its functions, and look at what early anatomical drawings looked like.

In the second part, we will use our teaching dummy Markus and plastinates — real preserved organs from the museum’s collection. We will examine the shapes and structures of internal organs, what they do, and why they are needed.

A pinch of humor, fascinating stories, and new knowledge — that’s ‘Public Dissection’ at the Estonian Health Museum.

The show takes place in the cozy circular auditorium on the fourth floor.

Seats are limited. The event is suitable for ages 14 and up.

With the event ticket, you can also explore the Estonian Health Museum’s permanent exhibition ‘A Heart to Heart About Your Body’ and the annual exhibition ‘Bye-bye, Youth!’ on the same day. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ticket: €13 in advance, €15 at the door. No discounted tickets are available for this event. Museum Cards are not valid for this event.
