Set in the Kallavere district of Maardu which is located 15 kilometers away from Tallinn, the documentary Neighbourhood Behind the Bushes focuses on inhabitants in the region. There is a contrast between those living in the Rootsi-Kallavere region, and those that live in block houses adjacent to them. The geographically disparate regions draw an invisible line between their lives, cultural values and spoken languages.

Led by a 11-member team, the aim of the ELU Project was to find differences, similarities and generally initiate a point of contact between the inhabitants of the regions. One of the ways in which it achieved the same was organizing a concert by a local folk band, at Rootsi-Kallavere museum. Without going into the ‘interventionist’ sphere, the film was still able to successfully capture the event, among many other aspects. The festival of Maslentisa, local events of school-going teenagers as well as intimate interviews filmed at homes of the inhabitants present small vignettes about life in the region.
The screening of the first cut of the film will follow a Q and A session with the cast and crew (which will also be translated to English)! The film was shot in Russian and Estonian.
