Guided tour "Triangle"

Saturday 6. June at 18:00 - 19:30

Vabaduse väljak 10, Tallinn

The guided tour “Triangle” takes us on a time journey into the mid-1980s. The triangle around Freedom Square – between the cafés Moskva, Varblane and Pegasus – became a gathering place for the free spirits of that time: bohemians and dissident intellectuals, writers and artists, punks and hippies, gays, outlaws, and pickpockets. During the last years of the Soviet period, the triangle also became a springboard for the first protest gestures leading to political upheaval. Some significant events of this period were linked to the Old Town Days festival.

The histories of literature, punk culture, LGBT+ communities are usually told separately from each another. There is not much knowledge how these partially underground subcultures interacted, but it is certain that their paths crossed from time to time. The guided tour “Triangle” narrates three histories next to each other and seeks for connections between them.

The tour is guided by Airi Triisberg.

The event belongs to the programme of the 44th Tallinn Old Town Days.
