Following Manja from childhood through her life, the play explores growing up in a world where love and joy offer no guarantee of safety. Shaped by a children’s counting song, it confronts violence against women and femicide, showing how violence can enter even a life that began in a loving home.
Jana Milivojević is a playwright and dramaturge from Belgrade, Serbia. Her plays have received awards and international recognition. We Are Scared, We Are Learning How to Count was selected by Eurodram and received the Slobodan Selenić Award for Best Graduation Play.
19:30 — The Miracles by Agostina Luz López
Directed by Vera Boitcova
Actors: Elina Jackson, Saimi Somerto, Sofia Stupenkova, Anastasia Trizna
Three generations of women—a grandmother, a mother and a daughter—revisit their family’s stories through the daughter Martina’s eyes. Memories become scenes, and everyday events grow into exaggeration and drama as Martina explores the maternal history she has inherited. When a friend arrives, the dynamics of both the family and the play begin to change.
Agostina Luz López is an Argentine playwright and theatre director. Her work explores human relationships and the wildness and vulnerability within us. Her plays move between childhood and adulthood, life and death, fiction and reality. Her productions have been presented in Argentina and internationally.
Both staged readings are performed in English.
In collaboration with Eurodram and Nordic Drama Corner
Admission is free. One ticket covers the discussion and both staged readings on 10 October.
