A piano–ballet performance featuring Erik Satie’s Gnossiennes and Matteo Ramon Arevalos’ La Folia

Erik Satie: Gnossiennes, Piano & Ballet is a multidisciplinary performance where music, movement, and narration converge into a single psychological journey.

The performance is brought to life by pianist Matteo Ramon Arevalos and ballerina Triinu Upkin, who embodies a solo role inspired by the figure of Ariadne—guiding the audience through an inner labyrinth of perception, doubt, desire, fragmentation, and clarity.

At its core lies Satie’s mysterious and meditative Gnossiennes, performed live on piano, interwoven with selected works from Matteo Ramon Arevalos’ La Folia. Together, they create a shifting emotional landscape that moves between stillness and intensity, introspection and eruption.

The work unfolds as a staged ritual rather than a traditional narrative, combining music, dance, and spoken text into a continuous arc of transformation. The narration that frames the concert is written by Arashk Azizi, shaping the conceptual and poetic structure of the journey.

Rather than telling a fixed story, the performance creates a space where meaning emerges through sound, silence, and movement—inviting the audience into a state of reflection and immersion.

This is Satie not as repertoire, but as experience:
a journey inward, where the labyrinth becomes the mind itself.
