REGENERATIVE ART EMBROIDERY

Saturday 6. June at 14:30 - 17:30

Regenerative Art Embroidery: Creating Precious Ornaments with Natural and Reclaimed Materials-Introduction.
Explore embroidery techniques to create a precious textile ornament using natural and reclaimed materials. Includes an introduction to haute-couture techniques such as the Lunéville hook and goldwork.

In this workshop, participants are invited to explore embroidery as a regenerative practice, a way of transforming materials and traditional embroidery techniques through the use of unexpected materials.

Drawing on techniques from haute couture embroidery ateliers, we will create a small textile ornament by combining various needle embroidery techniques inspired by art embroidery and goldwork. Threads, metal elements, and found materials - such as seeds, plant fragments, broken jewellery, or watch mechanisms - will be assembled to form textured and precious surfaces.

From this embroidered surface, we will then create a small three-dimensional object, inspired by origami folding, taking the form of a flower or a butterfly. It can be finished as a brooch, a hair ornament, or used as a patch to repair or transform a garment.

The workshop approaches embroidery as a language of transformation: repairing and embellishing what already exists. Each participant will develop their own composition and leave with a unique piece that can be worn, attached, or further developed at home.

A short demonstration of the Lunéville hook will provide an introduction to haute couture embroidery techniques. The main focus, however, will be on accessible hand embroidery techniques.

Workshop Leader:
Emmanuelle Rapin is a French art embroiderer and visual artist based in Berlin. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, she later specialized in haute couture embroidery (Lunéville hook). She has worked with Lou de Bétoly, RIANNA + NINA, Tata Christiane, and on the TV series ""Babylon Berlin"" with costume designer Pierre-Yves Gayraud. Since 2019, she has taught contemporary embroidery in fashion and art contexts.
