La Belle Angele
A life lived in the shadows of her father, of her lover and of her own sadness,
Eleanor Marx’s light shone fiercely upon fin-de-siècle England, until its
untimely extinction. Set against the explosive backdrop of early socialism,
Eleanor follows the tragic life of Karl Marx’ youngest daughter, a fierce activist
whose life has been long eclipsed in history by the male figures in her life.
Revolution, passion and the long-lasting nature of female friendship are
explored in this tragedy of a woman scorned. As Eleanor seeks deeper into a
depression caused by infidelity and abuse, she is kept afloat by the power of
sisterhood and Shakespeare, of theatre and of friendship, and by her own hunger
for justice. Eleanor fights tirelessly for the rights of others, whilst being completely helpless in her own salvation.
