Exclusive Guided Tour of the Exhibition “Spiegel im Spiegel”, in Russian
Tuesday 17. March at 18:00 - 20:00
Estonian Art Museum (KUMU), Tallinn
On an evening when the museum is already closed to regular visitors, art enthusiasts have a special opportunity within Kumu’s public programme to explore the ambitious cooperation project between the Art Museum of Estonia and the Dresden State Art Collections (Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, SKD). The exhibition “Spiegel im Spiegel: Encounters Between Estonian and German Art from Lucas Cranach to Arvo Pärt and Gerhard Richter” takes the viewer on a journey through Estonian and German art and history.
This exclusive programme offers a chance to experience the exhibition directly and without interruptions, revealing the meaning and historical context of the artworks under the expert guidance of an art historian. The tour will be led by art historian, researcher of the avant‑garde and modernism, and FLASH ART Gallery curator and lecturer Ksenia Remezova.
The tour will take place in Russian.
The exhibition, which places Estonian and German cultures in dialogue, raises questions about the intertwining and mutual influences of historical contexts, artistic ideas and styles, as well as the search for national and other forms of identity. It brings together graphic art, sculpture, painting, and installation, as well as critically reflects on art through the lens of the past and situates it in the context of themes relevant today.
The exhibition “Spiegel im Spiegel: Encounters Between Estonian and German Art from Lucas Cranach to Arvo Pärt and Gerhard Richter”, first presented in Dresden and now in Tallinn, is a vivid example of such a display. The twelve dialogues, anchored by the creative encounter between Arvo Pärt and Gerhard Richter, illustrate the aesthetic, historical, and sociocultural reflections within German and Estonian art that marked transitions between different eras.
During the tour, visitors will be introduced to the key points of the exhibition based on the concept developed by its curators.
The event is part of the public programme of the exhibition “Spiegel im Spiegel: Encounters Between Estonian and German Art from Lucas Cranach to Arvo Pärt and Gerhard Richter”.
