Prof. Eduardo Miranda is a composer working at the crossroads of music, science, and new technologies. His background as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) scientist and a classically trained composer with early involvement in avant-garde pop informs his distinctive music. He has composed for BBC Radio 3, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Singers, London Sinfonietta, and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Currently, he is a professor in computer music at the University of Plymouth, in the UK, and is a Scientific Advisor for Moth.
“Moment States” is a significant new piece for piano and electronics, by Eduardo Miranda, which explores unprecedented quantum AI technology. This will be the very first piece of music using proprietary quantum machine learning methods to listen and respond to music in real-time making the machine act as a buddy musician on stage.
The piece is composed for performance with a computer-controlled piano. In this case, the responses produced by the AI quantum computing system will be played on the same instrument as the pianist. However, Miranda will also use electronically synthesised sounds to augment the sonority of the piano. An installation version of “Moment States”, with quantum automatic playback will also be presented.
SWRL is a platform for contemporary music, performed within an immersive multichannel sound environment. We foster the creation and exploration of immersive sound environments of contemporary electro-acoustic music. We commission the creation of new musical works with a close focus on the composition of spatial aspects of sound. Our vision is to create an optimal listening space for the experience of contemporary sound within an immersive environment, where sounds are free to travel in three dimensions of space, 360 degrees of position, and elevation.
