DVOŘÁK · JÕELEHT | REJOICE × Orthodox Singers

Niguliste muuseum, Tallinn

On 30 October, REJOICE Ensemble and Orthodox Singers will perform Antonín Dvořák’s Mass in D major at Niguliste. The programme will also feature the world premiere of a new work by Estonian composer Lauri Jõeleht.

Orthodox Singers, conducted by Valeri Petrov, has been active since 1989. The ensemble has received awards at international competitions and has performed in many European countries and the United States.

REJOICE Ensemble is a professional vocal ensemble based in Tallinn, with a repertoire ranging from sacred and folk music to contemporary vocal works. In 2025, REJOICE was awarded Second Prize in the Professional Choirs category at the 44th International Festival of Orthodox Church Music Hajnówka in Poland.

Dvořák wrote his Mass in D major, Op. 86 for soloists, choir and organ. The work bears the musical qualities characteristic of Dvořák: clear melodic writing, rich harmony and direct expression. Its chamber scoring brings individual vocal lines into focus, while the organ plays an integral role in the musical texture.

Especially for this project, Lauri Jõeleht has composed Kyrie & Gloria, a new work lasting approximately 12 minutes. It will receive its world premiere at Niguliste on 30 October.
