DORMITION | Sacred Chants in Honour of the Mother of God

On 30 August, a concert of Orthodox sacred music will take place at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Tallinn, performed by the Combined Male Choir of the Parishes of the Tallinn Diocese of the ECOC.
Dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, the programme spans the Orthodox choral tradition from ancient chants to works by contemporary composers. At the heart of the programme is Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “In Prayers, O Unfailing Mother of God”, set to the text of the kontakion for the Feast of the Dormition.
The sound of an a cappella male choir, together with the unique acoustics of the historic cathedral, offers an opportunity to experience this music in the space for which it was created.
