WELCOME TO SHAPING SOCIAL STRUCTURES 2.0 WORKSHOP!

WHAT'S UP?
When we design, we are shaping the social structures of the situation, including entrenched norms, rules, roles, values and beliefs.

HOW?
This half day workshop is a follow up of the workshop from the last year Integrating Systems Thinking in Service Design by Josina Vink. This workshop will engage participants in learning approaches for critically examining social structure dynamics in relation to power. What social structures are dominant in a particular situation? Which are being undermined? What are the implications? How might design contribute to reshaping the situation to respectfully address existing power dynamics? Participants will walk away with greater knowledge around power and oppression in design and concrete approaches for opening up fruitful dialogues about power dynamics in a systemic way.
The workshop will be held in English.

FOR WHOM?
This workshop will be particularly useful for service designers that are familiar with social structures and have some experience of using the tool of Iceberg.

WHO?
Shaping Social Structures Workshop is led by Josina Vink. Josina is an Associate Professor in Service Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) and Design Lead within the Centre for Connected Care (C3) in Norway. Josina has over ten years of experience as a service and system designer working in international healthcare contexts, including Canada, the United States and Sweden. In their practice, Josina has developed new services, supported the policy change, facilitated shifts in practises across sectors, and led social lab processes.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Participating fee for the workshop is 100 euros + VAT. The fee includes coffee break.

The workshop is a part of the Design Thinking Tallinn 2022 program and is co-designed by Design Minds, Miltton, Nortal, Proekspert, Estonian Design Centre, Social Innovation Lab and Estonian Public Sector Innovation Team.
