Keanu Week opens with one of the most overlooked films of Reeves' career. Released between the original Matrix trilogy and the arrival of John Wick, STREET KINGS found him stepping into the world of hard-boiled Los Angeles crime thrillers, playing Detective Tom Ludlow, a decorated cop whose methods are as compromised as the city he's sworn to protect.
Directed by David Ayer, whose career has been built around stories of policing, violence and masculine codes of loyalty, the film belongs to a lineage of modern American crime cinema stretching from Training Day to L.A. Confidential. Ayer isn't interested in heroic law enforcement. His Los Angeles is a city where corruption runs deep, alliances shift without warning, and every institution seems capable of betraying the people inside it.
Reeves gives one of the roughest performances of his career. Ludlow is exhausted, self-destructive and increasingly isolated as he uncovers a conspiracy that reaches far beyond a single investigation. The role sits in sharp contrast to the controlled precision that would later define John Wick, revealing an actor willing to embrace vulnerability, anger and moral uncertainty.
Often overshadowed by the films that came before and after it, STREET KINGS deserves another look. It's an intelligent, muscular thriller with an outstanding supporting cast including Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie, Chris Evans and Terry Crews, and a reminder that Reeves' career has always contained more variety than his biggest hits suggest.
FOOD AND DRINK POLICY: FOMO Cinema Lounge Bar opens 1 hour before the first screening of the day and closes at 02:00, serving a wide selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic refreshments including coffee and tea, as well as fresh hot popcorn! Outside food is allowed in the bar but not in the cinema. No alcohol from outside allowed. All guests are invited to arrive early and stay late!
