Ġiżimina is the solo project of Yasmin Kuymizakis, aka JOON (Italians Do It Better).

Working across performance, sound installation, and music, Ġiżimina explores Maltese folk traditions, cultural memory, and reinterpretation. Id-Dlam Id-Dawl (The Darkness The Light) is a seven-track album built from archival folk guitar recordings, reworking fragments of Maltese musical memory into something intimate and personal. The record moves through change, loss, uncertainty, and renewal, where darkness and light are not opposites but interdependent states, each revealing the other.

The recordings that form Id-Dlam Id-Dawl were captured on cassette tape between 1980 and 1990 in the bars and social spaces where this music was originally performed. The project began following a live performance alongside filmmaker and sound collector Vincent Moon in 2025, sparking a deeper engagement with these archival recordings and the stories they carry.
