Ensemble U: “Two Halls Concert”
March 12 at 19:00
House of the Blackheads, Olavi Hall & White Hall
With: Valerio Sannicandro (ITA, electronics), Tammo Sumera (technical design)
This is an ambitious project exploring how to be at two concerts simultaneously. The Two Halls Concert takes place in two halls at the same time and is performed twice. In some works, part of the sound is transmitted to the other hall. The audience is divided between the two halls; afterwards, listeners switch halls and hear the second, previously hinted-at half of the program — a play of memory, imagination, and acoustic cues. At the center of the concert is Valerio Sannicandro’s work “Iter-Reti”, created according to the two-hall concept. A new version featuring the Osmose synthesizer will receive its premiere performance at this concert.
Programme
OLAVI HALL
Valerio Sannicandro – “Iter” for piano and Osmose synthesizer (premiere of the new version)
Xu Dong – “Synchronizität (1)” for percussion and piano in two halls
Helena Tulve – “Valvaja” (2002/2023 version for synthesizer)
WHITE HALL
Valerio Sannicandro – “Reti” for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and percussion
Xu Dong – “Synchronizität (1)” for percussion and piano
Fausto Romitelli – “Domeniche alla periferia dell’impero” for flute, clarinet, violin, and cello
NB! On Tuesday, March 10 at 18:00, the second meeting of U:'s Residentuu:r series will take place in the Olavi Hall of the House of the Blackheads, featuring guest Valerio Sannicandro and the topic “Memory as Medium, Space as Instrument.”
The concert is supported by the Estonian Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and takes place in cooperation with the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Music and the House of the Blackheads.
