AFRICAN VOICES IN TALLINN
On 19 September, Abantu Kultuur brings a full day of movement, rhythm, creativity and conversation to Paavli Kultuurivabrik.
African Voices in Tallinn creates a meeting point between Tallinn’s African diaspora and the wider local community. Come dance, learn rhythms, experience African fashion and performance, and hear different perspectives on identity, belonging and representation in Tallinn.
PROGRAMME
13:00–13:30 Doors open, welcome & music
13:30–14:15 Traditional Beninese Dance
Warm-up, cultural context and participatory traditional dance led by Maurice.
14:15–15:30 Modern Afro Dance Workshop
Choreography, coupé-décalé, jazzé and other contemporary African dance styles led by JB.
15:30–16:00 African Face-Painting Showcase
Face painting as an expression of culture, identity and self-expression.
16:00–17:00 African Percussion Workshop
A participatory rhythm and percussion session led by Maurice.
17:00–17:15 Dance Performance
A showcase combining traditional and modern African dance with Maurice and JB.
17:15–17:55 Panel Discussion: African Voices in Tallinn
A conversation about belonging, identity, representation and how African communities can participate more actively in Tallinn’s cultural and social life.
17:55–18:00 Closing
