Dating is a Joke!: A Comedy Singles Event (in English)

A combination comedy show and singles event, Dating is a Joke! is a new kind of way to meet people while having a blast--and leave feeling GOOD no matter what happens.

🎉 WHAT IS IT?
This is a low-stakes, interactive comedy show that provides you the opportunity to meet people. It's the only comedy show where everyone is single. You get to laugh, relax, and actually have FUN, while also making new connections.

Laughter is guaranteed, even if love isn’t.

• No speed dating, no human bingo, no awkward conversations, just a hilarious good time hosted by experienced comedians.

🧐 HOW DOES IT WORK?
In the first half, our experienced comedians warm up the crowd with comedy. Relax, have a drink, and laugh. For a sneak peek of what to expect, visit our Instagram page at @comedydating. It is the best singles event in Lisbon!

Then, in the second half, we will invite audience members to play low-stakes, super fun dating games with us (all voluntary). It’s a great way to get to know each other quickly while laughing. You don't need to come on stage and we have introvert-friendly activities, as well.

There’s plenty of time to mingle and chat with others before the show, during the break, and afterwards.

• 8:30 PM: Games start/arrive. Come in. Get a drink, mingle, and fill out some dating profile submissions to get things started.

• 9 PM: Show starts: The first half is comedy to get you smiling

• Short break: Mingle with people you've met

• 9:45 PM: Dating Games/Singles Event: get to know your fellow audience members and maybe even keep things going after

• After? Well, that depends on you. The bar will stay open.

NORMAL SINGLES EVENTS vs. DATING IS A JOKE

• Singles Events: Dating events can be ok, but are usually awkward and dumb and everyone is nervous you leave feeling meh.

• Comedy Events: Fun! Fills your brain with relaxed/happy chemicals (science!), and you leave feeling great.

With Dating is a Joke! You get the best of both worlds.

🥸 Do I have to be single to join?
Nope! Almost everyone there is single, but everyone is welcome. Sometimes taken friends come to support their single friends and we're fine with that, too!

🥲 Can I come alone?
Absolutely! Most people do. We’re a friendly bunch. Often, you have better odds if you come alone anyway. Our friendly host works hard to make everyone feel safe and comfortable.

❤️ Does it actually work?
It does (sometimes!) We regularly have people go on irl dates, as well as couples that have been together for months. Plus, you never know what chain of events will propel you into your next love.  

🫥 Do I have to participate?
All of the games are voluntary. We encourage people to step a little out of their comfort zone, but no participation is required. You can just sit back and enjoy the show. However, our goal is that you feel relaxed enough and the games are low stakes enough that you'll feel comfy joining in.

🫣 I'm shy. Is this only for extroverts?
No! You don't have to get up on stage. You don't have to be in front of anyone. We also have 1-on-1 and crowd activities you can participate in. We want everyone to feel comfortable. You will say at least two words to someone new.

🎟️ What does it cost?
This is a ticketed show. You need a paid ticket to enter. We recommend purchasing well ahead of time, as this show usually sells out before the date. Buy in advance to avoid the cost of buying at the door.

📍 About the Space: Selva Comedy Cafe
The cafe serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as some light snacks. For food, they have quesadillas with guacamole and baked goods.

• No refunds. If you can't or decide not to attend, we can't provide a refund.

• Tickets are valid for the date and time listed only.

• No filming. We ask you to put phones away.

• Please be on time

• We’ll be capturing photos and video throughout the event to share and promote future activities. By joining us, you’re giving permission for us to use this content. If you’d rather not be filmed or photographed, just let one of our team members know on the day.
