Dating is a Joke!: A Comedy Singles Event (in English) - Ages 40+ Edition!

A combination comedy show and singles event, Dating is a Joke! is a new kind of way to meet people while having a blast.

SPECIAL EDITION 40+ Show: You asked and we delivered. In May, we're doing a special 40+ edition. After all, love isn't just for Erasmus students.

WHAT IS IT?
This is a low-stakes singles event that provides you the opportunity to meet people during a hilarious, interactive comedy show. You get to laugh, relax, and actually have fun, while also making new connections. With a near 50/50 gender balance, you'll get BOTH a better odds and a better time than on Hinge.

• This event has always completely sold out before the show, so plan to get tickets ahead of time.
  
  There's no speed dating, no human bingo, no awkward conversations, just a hilarious good time hosted by experienced comedians. Laughter is guaranteed, even if love isn’t. What's it like? Watch a clip on Instagram to see what to expect.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
In the first half, our experienced comedians will warm up the crowd with comedy. Relax, have a drink, and laugh. For a sneak peek of what to expect, visit our Instagram page at @comedydating.

Then, in the second half, we will invite audience members to play low-stakes, super fun dating games with us (all voluntary). It’s a great way to get to know each other quickly while laughing. You don't need to come on stage and we have introvert-friendly activities, as well.

There’s plenty of time to mingle and chat with others before the show, during the break, and afterwards.

• 8:30 PM: Arrive. Come in. Get a drink, mingle, and fill out some submissions to get things started

• 9 PM: Show starts: The first half is comedy to get you smiling

• Short break: Mingle with people you've met

• 9:45 PM: Dating Games/Singles Event: get to know your fellow audience members and maybe even keep things going after

• After? Well, that depends on you. The bar will stay open.

Do I have to be 40+ to join this show? What if I'm 38?
For the May 23 show, we're doing a special 40+ edition. We want participants to be near 40 or above. If you're spiritually 40+ or almost 40, that's fine, too.

Do I have to be single to join?
Nope! Almost everyone there is single, but everyone is welcome.

Can I come alone?
Absolutely! Most people do. We’re a friendly bunch. Often, you have better odds if you come alone anyway. Our friendly host works hard to make everyone feel safe and comfortable.

Do I have to participate?
All of the games are voluntary. We encourage people to step a little out of their comfort zone, but no participation is required. You can just sit back and enjoy the show. However, our goal is that you feel relaxed enough and the games are low stakes enough that you'll feel comfy joining in.

I'm shy. Is this only for extroverts?
No! You don't have to get up on stage. You don't have to be in front of anyone. We also have 1-on-1 and crowd activities you can participate in. We want everyone to feel comfortable. You will say at least two words to someone new.

What does it cost?
This is a ticketed show. You need a paid ticket to enter. We recommend purchasing well ahead of time, as this show usually sells out before the date. Buy in advance to avoid the cost of buying at the door.

About the Space: Selva Comedy Cafe
The cafe serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as some light snacks. For food, they have quesadillas with guacamole and baked goods.

• Tickets are valid for the date and time listed only.

• No filming. We ask you to put phones away.

• We’ll be capturing photos and video throughout the event to share and promote future activities. By joining us, you’re giving permission for us to use this content. If you’d rather not be filmed or photographed, just let one of our team members know on the day.
