Fatih Akin | 2005 | Germany/Turkey | 90mins | Turkish language with English subtitles

CROSSING THE BRIDGE: THE SOUND OF ISTANBUL is presented as part of the week-long Music Film Fest at FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi.

CROSSING THE BRIDGE is a documentary journey through Istanbul’s music scene, guided by German musician Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten. The film moves through neighbourhoods and subcultures, capturing traditional folk, Kurdish laments, Roma brass, underground rock and experimental electronic music.

Akin treats Istanbul as a living organism. Each performance becomes a conversation between history and modernity. The film does not romanticise the city, it listens to it. Musicians speak about identity, censorship, heritage and transformation, revealing how sound carries political and cultural memory.

For audiences in Tbilisi, CROSSROADS... a reminder that cities in our corner of the world on the edge of continents produce hybrid cultures. This is not simply a music documentary, it is a portrait of a place told entirely through rhythm and voice.

Location: FOMO Secret Cinema, Bazari Orbeliani, Tbilisi. A five minute walk from Liberty Square metro.
