The story of a big dilemma in five small chapters. Is the word an action? Where the line between life and play goes?
“The city performs itself. The act of walking is to the urban system what the speech act is to language or to the statements uttered.”
Michel de Certeau, The Practice of Everyday Life, 1984
What performative options come in foreground when theatre buildings are closed? Can technology act as a person? Can an artist act upon is forced absence?
Absence is defined in the dictionary as a state or condition in which something expected, wanted, or looked for is not present or does not exist. This definition could be enriched by adding that it provokes sense of abandonment or loneliness, distrust. It defies expectations and yet it invites knowledge, facts and reality. It’s confrontational, disruptive. Absence is viral, political. We all have a story of absence.
Vanishing Trails is a collection of audio walks on the topic of absence, in which every material takes a unique sensual / performative / journalistic approach to deal with the current (dis)ability to act in the urbanized space.
The final result stems from the desire to bring forward to a public audience some of the materials collected through a recent seminar held by Imanuel Shipper and Helgard Haug (Rimini Protokoll) for the CPPM students and other guests participants.
