Helen Keith School of Ballet proudly presents Coppélia: The Living Doll
Set in a quaint Hungarian village, this ballet revolves around the eccentric and brilliant toymaker, Dr. Coppélius, and her most prized creation: a beautiful girl named Coppélia. Sitting silently on the balcony of the doctor's mysterious workshop, Coppélia reads her book day after day, drawing the curious gazes of the entire village who become captivated by her beauty.
The plot kicks into gear when the Swanilda and her mischievous friends' curiosity boils over and they sneak into Dr. Coppélius's workshop while she is out. Once inside, they discover a magical, slightly eerie world filled with clockwork toys and mechanical dolls. It is then when they realise that Coppélia is in fact a doll.
When the unsuspecting toymaker returns home to find intruders in her workshop, comical chaos ensues. Through a flurry of mistaken identity and magical trickery the group of friends find themselves caught up in Dr. Coppélius's eccentric experiments. The story ultimately celebrates the whimsical magic of invention, the lively spirit of village festivities, and the hilarious mishaps that happen when clockwork creations come to life.
This charming, family-friendly production brings Dr. Coppélius’s magical workshop to life with vibrant energy, brilliant choreography, and a talented cast of students who have been working tirelessly in the studio.
