Glaisters Bridge Community Woodland (Near Corsock)
Join us on this free drawing workshop as we draw inspiration from the Glaisters Bridge Community site and surrounding landscape to inform an introduction to Continuous line drawing!
In 2020, the Upper Urr Environmental Trust (UUET) was formed with the aim of creating access to nature through creating a new community woodland, improving access to the upper Urr Water, and working with partners to restore the local peatlands.
Working with nature is a slow process - seasons and the natural flows of nature need to be taken into consideration. It isn’t something you can rush, but you can take joy and inspiration from every part of the transformational journey (some of which can be read in the UUET blogs here: https://www.uuet.co.uk/)
The event will be led by local Artists Dr Kerry Morrison and Martha Schofield.
All drawing materials provided, and no drawing experience necessary! Suitable for total beginners as well as the more experienced! (Please bring your own lunch!)
What is Continuous line drawing?
Continuous flow line drawing is a cross between continual line drawing where you keep your pencil constantly in contact with the paper, and single line drawing where the pencil does leave the paper, but the line is constantly in a state of flow. The results are free flowing, expressive, and curious. You don’t need any previous drawing experience. Kerry and Martha will guide you through the
process and landscapes, plants, rocks, and water are wonderful subjects for continuous flow line drawings, they lend themselves to it perfectly.
Drawings can be created using all manner of mark making equipment. We will provide pencils, ink pens, charcoal (sticks, compressed, and crayon), graphite sticks, and wax crayons. They all have different qualities which you can explore. We will also provide A4 and A3 paper. Drawing might be something you are already familiar with and practiced in, in which case, you might want to bring a particular type of paper or your favoured drawing equipment with you.
We will begin the workshop outside, on site at Glaister’s Bridge, where we will take our time leisurely exploring the site, taking in inspiration, taking photos on our phones, and maybe gathering bits and bobs we would like to draw, for example, a handful of stones from the water.
Weather wise, April can be an unpredictable month. It’s impossible to predict what it will be like on Saturday 26th April. It could be a mix of sunshine and showers, it could be a gloriously warm and sunny day, it could chuck it down, it could even snow. So come prepared!
If the weather is bad, after exploring the site we will head to Corsock Village Hall, where we will have lunch together and time to share what has inspired us before we continue with our drawings until 2.30, or thereabouts.
The Glaisters Bridge Community Woodland forms part of an innovative lease - the first of its kind - by the owners of the nearby Woodland Creation project and Upper Urr Environment Trust (UUET).
This event is funded thanks to support from the site owners Foresight Sustainable Forestry Company, Forestry Agents EJD Forestry and Glenkens & District Trust.
This work forms part of the ‘Woodlands Plus project - info: https://dgwoodlands.org.uk/woodlands-plus/
