This is the extraordinary true story of a 30-year bond between two remarkable men: Augie Fabela, a 58-year-old U.S. police officer in Cook County, Illinois, who once thrived as a tech entrepreneur, and Dr.Dmitry Zimin, an 88-year-old former top-secret Soviet scientist. As the Russian invasion of Ukraine looms, they embark on one final journey together before Zimin’s scheduled euthanasia—a trip overshadowed by both personal and global catastrophe.

Their story begins in 1990, when Presidents Gorbachev and Reagan’s Cold War diplomacy brought Augie, the son of Mexican immigrants, to Moscow. There, he met Dmitry Zimin, the son of a Soviet-era “enemy of the people.” Together, they built a groundbreaking tech startup, achieving the American dream as self-made millionaires.

The film captures Zimin’s extraordinary transformation—from a Soviet scientist to a trailblazing advocate for progressive science and civil society in Putin’s Russia. For over a decade, he stood alone as the primary public financial supporter of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, risking everything to champion change in his homeland.
