About Mbedza Belgium
Mbedza is a charity established in the UK in 2015 aiming to reduce poverty in Malawi. It works to four main themes: fostering better community health especially sexual health, combatting climate change through tree-planting, contributing to a better quality of life through provision of more efficient cookstoves, and supplementing local education provision through a nursery and a library. Mbedza Belgium was created earlier this year and exists to raise awareness of the needs in Malawi and fundraise for Mbedza projects.

Proceeds from the event will go to Mbedza’s HIV testing and counselling work. Malawi has an HIV incidence of up to 8%. Based at the Songani Centre although with outreach to local markets, two staff members undertake at least 200 HIV tests per month. The work also includes referring HIV-positive people for treatment, following up HIV-positive people, health talks, one-to-one discussions, door-to-door awareness-raising, and distribution of condoms.

About the Community Kitchen
The Community Kitchen strives to create a Brussels-wide community of volunteers and donors committed to ensuring that no one in our city goes hungry. We are a diverse community of cooks who come together every day to prepare nourishing meals for people in need. From our base at Holy Trinity Brussels, our meals are sent out across the city to humanitarian, refugee and other food distribution centres. We also operate a weekly food bank and cafe providing essential food items to families and individuals in our city.

About Shindig
Oliver Gray grew up in Dorset, England in a family of singers, performers and
actors. He’s a violinist, singer and self-taught guitarist himself. Oliver started in
classical music and then discovered traditional music when he came to Belgium. He’s played in several groups (Crossroads, Fusion, Roue Libre) and regularly performs in duos or solo across Belgium and elsewhere. He’s composed more than 150 tunes and songs and released several CDs. Winner of the Belgian Folknam composition and interpretation competition. Music is Oliver’s passion!

John Walsh grew up in Ireland in the 1980s, where he was exposed to both Irish and international acoustic music. A self-taught guitarist he played with his family at marriages, wakes and in pubs. In the last 10 years, he’s been playing with friends and work colleagues across Brussels. He’s been building his reputation as the premier ukulele player of Irish traditional music! He plays music principally to keep himself sane. This is the first performance of the well-known duo as Shindig which means a lively party or gathering, especially one with dancing, music, and celebration. It implies a fun, energetic occasion for all which is what we hope it will be. They will perform original and traditional folk and singer songwriter music that will explore the community and support.
