Join us for our annual Burns Night Supper organised by the British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce (BECC) to celebrate the great Scottish poet Robert Burns.
The event will take place on the 24th of January, 2025. The evening includes a procession through the Old Town, traditional Scottish food and other delicacies of the Enlightenment period, fine whisky, live music, bagpipes, kilts, speeches, and will end with a Cèilidh preformed by the Scottish Band Rerr Terr.
In the real Burns’ way, there will also be an opportunity to give back to the community with a raffle and auction to raise funds for the BECC charity partners.
Burns Night Schedule:
● Welcome drinks at Kennedy’s (17:30-18:15)
● Procession through Old Town and Piping in of the guests (18:15-18:30)
● A big-time Burns Night calls for a piper to welcome guests. This time, we will follow the piper from Kennedy’s to Maikrahv as they arrive; the audience should stand to welcome arriving guests: the piper plays until the high table is ready to be seated, at which point a round of applause is due for the piper.
● The Master Of Ceremonies introduces himself and asks the Chairman to give his welcome. (18:40)
● The Master Of Ceremonies explains about the night and who Robert Burns was (18:50)
● The Selkirk Grace (19:00)
A very short but important prayer read to usher in the meal, The Selkirk Grace, is recited in Scots.
● The immortal memory + 1st toast (19:20)
This speech is about the literary genius, politics, highs and lows, human frailty, and ideals of Robert Burns.
● Piping in an address to the Haggis (19:30)
Guests should stand to welcome the dinner’s star attraction, an extra-large haggis called a ‘Chieftain’ which should be delivered on a silver platter by a procession comprising the chef, the piper, and the person who will address the Haggis (in this case the piper). During the procession, guests clap in time to the music until the Haggis reaches its destination at the table. The music stops, and everyone is seated in anticipation of the address, a poem to the Haggis. On cue, he cuts the Chieftain and then leads a toast to the Haggis.
● The main course (19:40)
● The charity raffle (20:00)
● Toast to the Lassies + 2nd toast (20:20)
The humorous highlight of any Burns Night comes in this toast, designed to praise the role of women today.
● Dessert 20:30
● Toast to the Laddies + 3rd toast (21:00)
● The Charity Auction (21:30)
● The Cèilidh begins (22:00)
● Event ends & Auld Lang Syne (people can stay until the restaurant closes) (23:30)
We hope you can join us!
