In Southeast Asian military-led states of Thailand and Myanmar, the authorities violate human rights and attempt to control the communication and media in order to maintain their power. Under the strict censorship and restrictions, independent filmmakers have sought ways to raise people's voices, addressing the grave political issues of the day.
Burmese and Thai Film Screening is organized by a group of students from Tallinn University as a part of the ELU project. Aiming to empower those artists who work in promoting the human rights movement, fighting for the freedom of expression in Thailand and Myanmar, through film screenings, our project addresses these issues to elaborate the complexity of historical, political, and cultural context of Burmese and Thai military states. The event is a two-day program featuring five short films related to political issues in Myanmar and Thailand followed by discussion by expert guests:
