Documentary CONNECTED (dir. Vera Krichevskaya). Screening in Wien & Discussion with the Director.

The Echo invites you to a screening of the film Connected by director Vera Krichevskaya and a discussion in Wien.

The film tells the story of the last months in the life of the outstanding Russian radio engineer, founder of the company VympelCom, and philanthropist Dmitry Zimin. He chose to end his life through euthanasia just before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army. At the same time, the film encapsulates the key events of the 20th century in Russia, evolving into a profound family saga.

At the age of 88, Zimin embarks on his final journey with his closest friend and former business partner, Augie Fabela—an American and an active-duty police officer in Chicago. Through Augie's eyes, we witness a century-long cycle of Russian history, with Zimin as its central figure. It is also through Augie that we bid farewell to Dmitry Zimin on his last journey to a Swiss clinic.

The film premiered at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and ArtDocFest in Riga in March 2025, where it received the Special Jury Prize.

After the screening, a discussion with the director will take place, moderated by journalist Maksim Kurnikov.
