Bar culture festival Bartu

Bartu is a city festival hosted by Ula bar and dedicated to bar culture.

The BARTU festival celebrates bar culture and highlights the creativity and inspiration that flourish in bars. The festival has two directions: a co-creation program, where visitors can participate in workshops and discussion groups, and a music program, which allows people to enjoy the creativity of others.

Friday, July 12 (free)

19:30 Stories of Tartu bars in literature and memories. Stories presented by actors from Must Kast.
20:00 Opening of an installation about Tartu's vibrant bar life.
20:30 Yard disco by Finnish disco music group Weird & Wonderful (Tero Männikkö, Juuso Tervo, Anssi Nieminen).

Saturday, July 13 (day program free)
14:00 - 17:00 Drink and paint. Supplies provided on-site. Guided by artists Mari Frühling and Hele-Riin Juhkama.
14:30 - 16:00 Creative writing workshop, also known as toilet wall poetry. Led by poetry slam organizer Sirel Heinloo.
16:00 - 17:15 Discussion circle on the legends of Tartu bars.
17:30 - 19:00 Discussion circle on the future of Tartu bars.

The Friday evening and Saturday cultural programs are free for everyone. The ticketed events are the Saturday evening concert program and the bar tours (on both Friday and Saturday).

The bar culture festival BARTU is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 program.
We recommend coming to the festival on foot, by bike, or by public transport. Festival performers are accommodated by Hotel SOHO.
