Auditory Reset: Rareș Mihăilescu (Berio, Gubaidulina)

Auditory Reset is a new initiative of an ongoing concert programme line starting from October 2022, at A Lab in Amsterdam Noord. Every second Tuesday of the month, from 18:00 till 18:30, we are presenting radiating musicians with intriguing performances.

On the 11th of April, we are presenting the astonishing Romanian cellist, Rareș Mihăilescu who is going to perform Berio's Sequenza XIV and Preludes for Cello Solo from Sofia Gubaidulina.

The preludes give a total view of this composer's audible universe. Based on different cello techniques they all take us on different paths wondering the landscapes of sound and space. They also guide the audience's ear towards the monument which Berio's Sequenza constitutes. Once getting passed the barrier of 'unusual modern' techniques of using the cello one starts to see the cathedral like structure of this work. One can find it almost romantic in its expression and a undeniable proof of Berio's composing genius.
