Anthony Bourdain: Stories from the Road + TONY film

FOMO Secret Cinema, Tbilisi

For one night, 22 people will sit down with someone who knew Anthony Bourdain not as a television personality, but as a friend and travelling companion.

Someone who travelled with him, filmed with him, ate with him, got into adventures (and some trouble!) with him and appeared alongside him on television.

I can’t tell you who our special guest is just yet.

But what I can tell you is on Thursday, October 8, he’ll be joining us at FOMO for a one-of-a-kind evening of Anthony Bourdain on screen, followed by the stories that happened when the cameras weren’t rolling.

And there’s a very particular Georgian connection.

We’ll begin the evening with an episode from television featuring Bourdain and our special guest. I'm deliberately keeping the episode itself under wraps. I’d much rather you discover why I chose it when you’re sitting in the cinema with the person who is actually on screen.

We’ll then screen TONY, Matt Johnson’s new film about a completely different chapter of Bourdain’s life.

ABOUT TONY

Matt Johnson | 2026 | USA | 1h46m | Presented in the original English audio with English subtitles.

TONY takes us back to the summer of 1975. Bourdain is 19 years old, broke, convinced he’s going to become a writer and takes a summer job washing dishes in a Provincetown restaurant.

He doesn’t know it yet, but walking into that kitchen will change the course of his life.

Rather than trying to squeeze Bourdain’s entire story into a conventional biopic, TONY concentrates on that one formative summer, years before KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL, television, fame and a life spent travelling the world.

Then comes the part of the evening that makes this something you won’t get from simply watching Bourdain at home.

Live Q&A

After the film, our special guest will join us for an intimate live Q&A about the Anthony Bourdain he knew personally.

  • What was Anthony like when the cameras stopped rolling?

  • What was he like to travel with?

  • What made him laugh?

  • What drove him crazy?

  • What happened on those long journeys, meals and adventures that never made it onto television?

You’ll be able to ask these questions and more, as our special guest shares first-hand accounts of what it was like "on the road" with Bourdain.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

This evening isn’t intended to be a sombre memorial. It’s an evening when we'll be celebrating Bourdain as a traveller, writer, television personality and friend. You can expect it to be funny, affectionate, occasionally outrageous and full of stories.

Who should attend?

If Anthony Bourdain changed the way you thought about food, travel or the world outside your own front door, this night is for you.

And because FOMO Secret Cinema has only 22 seats, it’s going to be genuinely intimate.
