U: is currently is currently the most active and renowned contemporary music ensemble in Estonia. It has gained recognition for its ability to perform even the most demanding works without conductor, openness for bold experimental ideas and sensitivity for sound. U: has performed at many important international festivals and is, among other things, still the only Estonian ensemble to have performed at the Venice Music Biennale. U: engages with both canonical works of contemporary music and experimental compositions. One of the ensemble’s key directions is a deep focus on improvisation and the performance of works that require the interpretation of unconventional notation.
