On Saturday, February 5, at 2 pm, an English-language tour by Andrés Galeano will take place at Kogo Gallery and Ag47 Gallery at his solo exhibition “Lost Clouds Archive”.
Andrés Galeano’s exhibition project “Lost Clouds Archive”, which runs through two adjacent galleries, weaves together family and portrait photography with old meteorological photography to reveal a metaphysical connection between the photographic medium and the sphere of the celestial or transcendental. Looking at the history of meteorology and photography sparks connections with current issues such as digitalisation and data clouds as well as global warming. The exhibition invites us to think of the concept of the sky from different perspectives – the meteorological view of the physical sky, the photographic view of a metaphysical sky and the digital view of a contemporary sky.
Kogo Gallery houses the part of the exhibition that tells the story of the intertwined histories of meteorology and photography, drawing on material from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia archives. In Ag47 Gallery, the visitors enter a self-service photographic studio where they can take selfies against a background of the clouds of their choice. Here, Andres Galeano stages a modern version of a mid-19th-century photographic studio offering carte de visite portraits, often against a backdrop of painted clouds.
Andrés Galeano (b. 1980, Mataró, Spain) is an artist based in Berlin and Barcelona. He holds a Philosophy degree from the University of Barcelona, a Photography diploma from the Freie Fotoschule Stuttgart and a Sculpture/Free Arts degree from the Kunsthochschule Weißensee Berlin. He works with photography, video, installation and performance and has realised exhibitions and performances throughout Europe, Latin America, USA and Canada.
Andrés Galeano’s oeuvre investigates photography as a metaphor of transcendency. As a post-photographer, he readapts and conceptually reframes other people’s photographs.
Andrés Galeano’s “Lost Clouds Archive” is the first exhibition in the Kogo Gallery’s 2022 programme titled “Past is the Present”.
The exhibition will be open until April 2 Mon-Fri 13-19, Sat 13-18.
