It is time to get to know the region of Upper Carniola, where all of our destinations are nestled in the heart of the Julian Alps and are known after their natural beauty. Our first stop is the nature reserve called Zelenci Springs which is located near the town of Kranjska Gora, in the far northwestern corner of Slovenia. It is the source of Slovenia's longest river Sava, with its hidden mysterious bubbles which bring the river up to the surface.
ZELENCI NATURE RESERVE
The Zelenci Springs Nature Reserve, is a captivating natural gem that enchants visitors with its tranquil beauty. The reserve is centered around the ethereal Zelenci Springs, where crystal-clear turquoise waters emerge from the ground, forming a series of enchanting ponds and meandering streams. Surrounded by lush wetlands, dense forests, and picturesque mountains, the reserve provides a haven for a diverse array of plant and animal species, including rare birds and amphibians. A wooden boardwalk allows visitors to explore this delicate ecosystem while preserving its pristine state, offering a serene and immersive experience in one of Europe's most remarkable natural landscapes.
The lake itself never freezes, it has a constant temperature throughout the year of 6 degrees Celsius and is the spring of Slovenias most important river, the river Sava which down its stream flows into the World famous Danube river.
LAKE JASNA
Lake Jasna, a breathtaking alpine jewel which captivates visitors with its pristine beauty and serene ambiance. The lake's crystal-clear emerald waters mirror the towering peaks that embrace it (Julian Alps), creating a stunning reflection of nature's grandeur. Surrounded by verdant forests and meadows, Lake Jasna offers a tranquil escape for nature enthusiasts, providing opportunities for leisurely strolls, picnics, and even refreshing swims during the warmer months. With its idyllic setting and remarkable vistas, Lake Jasna stands as a testament to the exquisite beauty of Slovenia's natural landscapes, inviting travelers to embrace the tranquility and wonder of the outdoors. The statute of a Zlatorog, the golden-horned ibex, stands proudly at the entrance and provides perfect tourist photo opportunities.
At the lake you will also be able to drink your morning coffee while enjoying the exquisite view of the Julian alps.
PLANICA & TAMAR VALLEY
Planica Nordic Ski Center stands as an iconic hub for winter sports and a testament to human achievement. Renowned for its colossal ski jumping hill, where athletes from around the world showcase their prowess, Planica embodies the spirit of both competition and camaraderie. The center's modern facilities cater to skiers of all levels, offering well-maintained cross-country trails that weave through scenic landscapes of snow-draped forests and breathtaking mountain panoramas. The bravest of you all will be able to ascend to the top of the ski jumping hill, which allows you to jump more than 250 meters.
