Aigu Om! barn concert: Epifolium caterva // Eva-Lotta Vunder + Madis Meister, Mari Kalkun

Thursday 10. July at 19:00 - 21:00

Viitina kõrtsi küün

Cozy and Free-Spirited Opening Night of Aigu Om! Festival

The doors of Aigu Om barn in Viitina will open for the Aigu Om! festival on only three special evenings in 2025.

The concert and festival will be given a wonderful start by local musicians, new residents of the Viitina area, Eva-Lotta Vunder and Madis Meister. Also performing to welcome Aigu Om is the festival organizer and barn hostess, musician Mari Kalkun. For the first time, you'll hear the laid-back music of Epifolium caterva, the band of Iisak Sulev Andreller, a Setomaa-Canadian known from Nedsaja Küla Bänd. The Aigu Om! anthem will also be played. Kokad Kuu Pealt (Chefs from the Moon) will be cooking to the rhythm of the music, so you won't go hungry!

EPIFOLIUM CATERVA (Setomaa/Estonia / Canada)

Epifolium caterva is led by Setomaa-based Canadian-Estonian composer Iisak Sulev Andreller and Kaisa Kuslapuu (Lonitseera, LÖYLY Orchestra, 6hunesseq). Together, they breathe new life into traditional Seto folk motifs, reinterpreting them in imaginative and truly original ways. These familiar traditions are masterfully reimagined through a unique lens, weaving together the unexpected textures of cinematic music, jazz, electronica, and acoustic folk into a distinctive, beautiful instrumental tapestry. It’s a soundscape that soothes as much as it surprises and comforts as much as it challenges.
Presenting material from their recently released “Sounds of Setomaa vol. 1”, in addition to Iisak on bass and the boldly imaginative piano of Kaisa Kuuslapu, the ensemble features the lyrical, classically shaded violin of Helin Pihlap, the calming warmth of Mart Adermann’s mellow guitars, and the crisp, youthful energy of Oskar Nursi’s jazz-inflected drums.

Kaisa Kuslapuu - piano and keys

EVA-LOTTA VUNDER, MADIS MEISTER (Võrumaa, Estonia)

Featuring Musicians Marie Jõgi, Mari Kalkun

Singer-songwriter Eva-Lotta Vunder's work is characterized by a deep connection to nature, the passage of time, and vitality. In her songs, nature isn't just a backdrop; it's a living, feeling character. And time doesn't simply run; it breathes. This feeling also inspired Eva-Lotta to write the Aigu Om anthem, which will certainly be heard at the concert.

The theme of "home" has become prominent in the singer's work in recent years. The songs performed at the concert will explore the feeling of home and being on the way home, moments noticed with tender attention that invite us back to nature's rhythm, inner peace, and closeness to our own hearts.
